More info:

Due to the cancellation of the 2020 Morden Corn & Apple Festival, the Morden Fire Hall is unable to hold their annual Boot Drive Fundraiser which constitutes a major loss of fundraising opportunity for the Fire Hall. To aid them in reaching their goals the Corn & Apple Festival commissioned this stunning painting, and the purpose of this auction is to raise funds for the Morden Fire Hall.

“AUTUMN SUNRISE IN THE VALLEY” (24×36″ Acrylic on Canvas) by renowned Pembina Valley Arts Council artist Jean Mackie depicts a stunningly familiar scene to anyone who has been to the Pembina Valley area. Mackie’s signature “quilted-look” combines striking colours and patterns to evoke the look of knitted fabric, and features a fabric sewn mini quilt on the clothesline.

To commemorate the first-ever cancellation of the Morden Corn & Apple Festival due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Mackie hid subtle references to corn, apples, and the shape of the corona virus into the design.

The painting will remain on display at the Pembina Hills Arts Council (352 Stephen Street, Morden, MB) for the duration of the auction.
